I guess this just shows us that the media has its head up its ass. They will never frame it so but there is no way that they didn't falsely advertise the situation going into this race.

At least Maine and Mass legalized Weed. Some progress is good.

Sad day indeed.

We must hold our heads up.... grab a pair of boots and go hiking, or grab a pair of skis and go skiing, or grab a pair of heady toppers and get drunk, or go grab some ass and get away with it. I don't fear Trump, I fear the kind of people that would vote for him.

My plan is to follow some lines from John Prine ........."blow up your TV....throw away your paper, move to the country and build you a home"

Sounds like a plan.

Wish Tim, Bill, and Dana were alive. We need more good Men, not less. Why the hell did so many women vote for the Donald? This baffles me. I guess some ladies aren't ladies after all.

On a side note, I got one vote from a friend of mine for high bailiff. At least, they got the high part right. It's too bad that Phil Scott got in...not that he's a bad guy, but you can say goodbye to any legal weed for awhile.

We can just drive to Maine or Massachusetts. I never thought Massachusetts would listen to their citizens better then Vermont.  Vermonters overwhelmingly support legalization But our legislators don't do our bidding anymore.

The DNC is the fly in the ointment in this case. They cheated and now they are paying for it, or we are paying for it? I guess we will have to wait and see what the Big Orange bull with bad hair does in the China shop.

Both the RNC and DNC are irrelevant to the citizens of the USA. They've become big corporations out to protect the top 10%. Gerrymandering was set up to protect their interests. If an outsider tries to run for office, either the RNC or DNC steps in to make sure the incumbent (or their top pick) gets elected. It's happening more and more.

Trump vs Clinton is what you get when the system falls apart. Neither the RNC or DNC have a clue about what really matters to the majority of people. And the public has been so manipulated by the two-party system that most them don't even know what they want any more. But if you talk to people, we have far more in common than what we've been led to believe.

Get rid of gerrymandering and let's have a truly competitive system. Every voting district has to have a fairly balanced mix of conservatives and progressives. It won't ever be perfect but it'll work a whole lot better than what we have now. What we'll find is that we'll have a more moderate Congress because representative will have to address issues in a way that satisfies most people, not the extremes. Without guaranteed re-elections the DNC and RNC won't be able to force their elitist agenda on us.

Term limits isn't necessarily the answer; I'd rather be able to re-elect good people than have constant newbies in office. The difference will be in having open, competitive elections. Let the best candidate win.

Not sure they are irrelevant. The DNC/RNC are like the Arms of big money stealing democracy from the people. 46% of eligible voters didn't even bother to participate. Trump won a race where 1 out of two people didn't show up. Even worse he got a million votes less then the looser. They each got 25% of the vote. The media doesn't frame it like this. Its not a democracy when half the people dont think it matters. The DNC/RNC fully understand what the people want which is why they try so hard to own it. They know we want something for our tax dollars other then tax breaks for wealthy people and corporations. This is why they own the system, its to protect that arrangement. When they own it they can make their thievery legal by passing laws that make it legal to make a billion dollars and pay very little in taxes like our new leader. Its legal to take houses for medical bills, its legal to keep election money after the election, its legal to do all kinds of things the make rich people richer.

So true, Bob...so many of the folks who voted for Trump were deluded into thinking that he would create some sort of push back against the wealthy elite. Strange, given that he is one of them....I personally believe that democracy as it stands now is an illusion and the powers that be give us the "illusion of choice" when in fact it is business as usual no matter who gets elected. Business as usual being regulatory policies that favor the wealthy elite.

We live in a Corpacracy not  a Democracy. Its access to the highest bidder and the media is a partner. They spread misinformation and only show what supports the myth. Throw out your TV! Join the underground economy! Get out of Bank debit!

The truth is out there; it just takes an effort to seek it out. And to participate. We need to enact automatic voting registration and everyone receives a ballot. Make it as easy as buying a lottery ticket.

We need to move the day we vote to April 15th and attach the ballot to the tax return. Everyone who doesn't fill in the ballot gets an additional 25 dollar tax increase.

If we did this we would get near 100% participation. Everyone would be automatically registered if they filed a tax return. Its fucking insane people who pay taxes have to even register to vote. Talk about stupid inefficient processes.

Well, we know where Tom stands on gun control.

This year I did the absentee ballot option. Worked great. Just had to drop in at the town clerk's office and cast my vote... weeks before the election. They just need to do away with the extra paper work involved with absentee ballots.

I got this feeling donny boy will end up getting impeached. [icon_artsmile]

I tabled that idea in Starksboro. In this little town we get tiny turnouts. The new town garage was voted in for 2million dollars 46 against 84 for. We have 1200 registered voters. Nobody liked the idea of attaching the collection of taxes to voting. IT turns out 26% of the town lives on State roads too. So the garage really only benefits the 84% that live on Dirt. So if you have a 300K home on a state road and a 300K home at the end of a 5 mile dead end road the tax bill is the same. I get to pay for their access and maintenance'. I suggested there be different rates if you live on dirt roads. That didn't go over well either. I think its human nature to try and hang on to your deal.

People are pretty much the same when it comes to politics and taxes: What's in it for me?

Bernie Sanders was advocating a basically libertarian socialist democracy. Good for me, good for you, good for the earth. Instead, we ended up with a president that seems to be promoting something more like great for me, f*ck you, and who gives a shit about the earth.

I like controlling guns. Carefully aim at the food and pull the trigger.

I saw that Trumps Daughter put out a "Style Alert" for her Jewelry company. It had a picture of her at the White House with a line pointing to a bracelet she was wearing for the occasion. They are already capitalizing on this mess. They know no other way.

Trump's not stupid, he's in this for the money and power. He'll set things up for his own benefit during the four years in the White House and then he'll capitalize on it. He want's to be the richest man in the world.
